At some time in life, you probably remember having an intuitive experience. You sensed a situation that felt wrong, but you couldn’t put your finger on it. Or you heard a voice within you giving a direction. Possibly it was a feeling, image, or notion that interrupted your thoughts.
Intuition comes to us unannounced and, when we pay attention, we take notice.
We are hardwired as children to be intuitive. We are born with this natural gift. With age, we sometimes lose this unique ability.
Everyone has intuition. When we harness our intuition, we connect to our authentic selves and become more empowered. But many people do not realize the potential of tapping into this birthright and what it means for them.
Why is it so important to use your intuition?
Our daily lives are full of distractions. More and more, we are asked to make choices, important decisions, or evaluate critical information. That’s the logical-intellectual side of our brain. The other part of our brain, which feels, senses, and wants to create, often gets overlooked.
We’ve evolved to be thinkers, not sensors. We were not taught how to pay attention to our intuitive abilities. But in recent times, the idea of tapping into your intuition is earning the recognition it rightly deserves. Now it is referred to as a “super-power,” and the buzz is that we will be transitioning- maybe slowly, but in time from the “information age” to the “intuition age.”
Information in all forms surrounds us. We are continuously bombarded by an outpouring of data daily. What we consume and what we focus on influences our ability to connect to this “super-power.”
We are disadvantaged if we find ourselves mindlessly consuming too much information and others’ opinions and beliefs. Much of what we absorb is negative, influential, and often confusing.
We begin to lose trust in our inner guidance. We become limited in the best ways to be more successful, productive and live a more awakened and purposeful life.
Shakti Gawain, in her book Developing Intuition, “explains that because intuition connects us to the soul level of our existence, many people who develop their intuition find that it brings them into a deep relationship with their spiritual nature, and brings that spiritual connection into their daily lives.”
“The most successful people are often very intuitive. Consciously or unconsciously, they follow their gut feelings.”
Shakti also reminds us how much our intuition is connected to our creativity. When we are disconnected from our intuitive sense, we find our creativity blocked.
Being blocked or stuck is one way to know our chakras (Sanskrit, meaning disk or wheel) are out of balance.
Based on the spiritual traditions of the East, we have seven chakras, each with their energetic signature, and all connected to a body part or organ. Some experts maintain that it affects our ability to be in touch with our intuition when chakras are out of balance.
Others suggest that the sixth chakra, also known as the third eye chakra, or Ajna, based in the center of the forehead, connects to intuition and spiritual realms. It performs as a kind of sixth sense and is located in the center of the forehead.
Having an open “third eye chakra” allows you to listen to your intuition or the inner voice that guides you.
Being better in touch with our intuition puts us in the “flow state” when we feel alive and fully engaged with life.
For many, developing intuition helps us understand ourselves more and acts as a guide to help us align with what we know is true for us. It allows us to know and appreciate our gifts become more fully human.
The first step is understanding that we are all capable of tapping into the gift of inner wisdom.
We all take in information differently. We all sense things differently. At times, we may combine one or more of these ways we find our natural intuitive gifts.
Take a look below at the four ways of accessing intuition. Think about a time when you had an intuitive hit. Which one or more of the “Clair’s” do you feel you many have experienced?
Four ways we access our intuition:
Clairsentience (clear sensing):
Some people receive clear feelings. You might feel physical tingling in your body, goosebumps, a “gut feeling,” or warmth. People who are energetically open and highly sensitive can sometimes feel another person’s energy.
Clairaudient (clear hearing)
Others experience their intuition using auditory channels” times when you hear an inner voice- either yours or another’s. Whispers in the ear- words, phrases, names, and numbers are simple examples. It takes practice and skill to learn if what you hear is an intuitive “voice” or if they are your thoughts.
Clairvoyance (clear seeing)
Some people see visual messages as pictures. Sometimes they are stationary, or as movies. They are also referred to as a “psychic sight.” The images may be symbolic, and the challenge here is learning to make sense of the symbolism and what it is trying to tell you.
Claircognizance – (knowingness)
Those who have this skill know. It is nothing they sense, hear or see. They just know. Often, they have a hard time describing how they know what they know.
Get motivated to Harness Your Inner Wisdom-find ways to be relaxed and focused.
Like our unique spiritual side, we each have a way of knowing what feels correct for our soul growth and awakening. Some of us need to be active, some need quiet, and others need to create.
Meditation, breathwork, keeping a journal, prayer, or any spiritual practice in silence are basic, simple first starts in becoming more intuitively aware.
But they are not the only ones.

Before you can access your intuition, also called your Higher Self, you must learn how to connect to it and create a relationship with it.
And like any meaningful relationship we wish to grow, it needs nourishment and strengthening on an ongoing basis.
Not everyone is interested. Many people choose to stay distracted. But, we pay the price. If we do not make time to unplug and detach from the outside, we rely only on the external noise we allow into our minds.
We may pay less and less attention to our inner self. And then, we lose pieces of ourselves daily. We lose them to the noise.
Trusting the internal voice within ourselves, and trusting our intuition, empowers each of us.
If we genuinely wish to see positive changes in our world, awakening our intuitive abilities is a responsibility for each of us. Our intuitive mind is “a sacred gift” and a practical way to live a more compassionate and spiritual life.
No one can do this for you. Your spiritual awakening and journey depends on you.
